Tableau Vivant was originally created for the exhibition "1998: New Artists in Chicago", at the Terra Museum of American Art. The work consisted of a vinyl LP recording of the curatorial staff of the Museum standing in silence in the museum gallery that the piece would eventually occupy. The record was played back on a circa 1960s portable stereo system. Tableau Vivant was later exhibited as part of "Several Silences" at The Renaissance Society in Chicago, and the Knoxville Museum of Art, in Knoxville TN. "Several Silences" was curated by Hamza Walker.
